At 5:00 am this past Thursday morning, I woke up with Difficulty lifting my left arm above my shoulder……even after I proceeded to take a shower like normal and then bake some biscuits from my twin sister Melissa and myself.

At about 7:00 AM on Thursday Morning, Melissa took me to the ER at Missouri Baptist Medical Center or MOBAP and a few hours later I was diagnosed with having had an Acute Stroke with Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). What is Acute Stroke with Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO)?

According to the website RebuildAfterStroke, Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) is “a small flap-like opening between the upper chambers of the heart that normally seals soon after birth. For roughly one in four adults, it remains open. In most cases this doesn’t cause any symptoms and goes unnoticed for life. Yet for some people, especially those who have had a stroke with no clear cause, a PFO can take on new importance.”

The doctors at MOBAP said that the stroke this time occurred on the right side of the brain, which is why I was affected on the left side of my body. They say the stroke that I suffered this time not as bad as it was in 2021, and yet, the same medical professionals are concerned as to why I suffered two strokes for someone as young as I am……both with “unknown” causes.

I was released from MOBAP on Friday afternoon and I was told I could resume my regular activities….. in which I have for the most part……including assisting at the 4:30pm mass at St. Anselm Parish as an Instituted Acolyte yesterday.

Because of the possible heart connections to the strokes, they are having me wear a heart monitor 24/7 for the next month and, at which time, I will be seeing a Cardiologist for next steps and hopefully take care of the cause they suspect for good. In the mean time, I will be going back to physical and occupational therapy and related to this new stroke……..nuts!

The bad news is that I suffered another stroke. The good news is that as far as I know, I still have essentially all the same faculties I had before this last stroke. I commented to a few people last night at 4:30pm mass at St. Anselm Parish that essentially I’m a walking miracle considering that the odds of somebody keeping all their faculties about them after a second stroke is not that common and that I was assisting at mass just one day after getting out of the hospital and just two days after suffering a stroke is indeed a miracle in and of itself.

That is where things stand as of now. Please keep the prayers coming for 1) that I am blessed enough to make a full recovery 2) that we are able to prevent any future strokes and 3) I I’m able to get a great job that I can love to do very soon!

God bless you, God Bless President Donald Trump, God bless the doctors, nurses, etc that are helping in my recovery, God bless my twin sister Melissa Hewing, God bless my father Arthur Hewing on this Father’s Day, and God Bless America . Deo Gratias, Deo Gratias, Thanks Be to God Most High.

Good Sunday evening everybody!
