The Big B Zone (2004-2007)

The end of the Big B Zone . .that’s the Subject of the Big B Files.

Big B Zone Radio Program       As you may have heard on 97.1FM Talk in St. Louis this afternoon that I did not win the Dave Glover Show Surivior Contest.  the following was posted on the 97.1FM Talk Website late this Afternoon:

97.1 FM TALK SURVIVOR ANNOUNCES A WINNER
Thanks to everyone who submitted a sample tape, and thanks to everyone who voted and voiced their opinion on the finalists.
The “Survivor Winner” from the four week competition is TIM MEYER! He has won the opportunity to host a one hour show from 8-9p.m. on the following dates: 3.11, 3.18, 3.25 and 4.1. Plus he will receive a full ride scholarship to The Broadcast Center, and an internship with The Glover Show.

The Listeners oviously thought that the Big B Zone was not worthy of being named the winner of the contest.  I thank those from the bottom of my heart who voted for me.
From what I can gather, it was a hit with the station itself and Dave Glover himself said on his show this afternoon that the Big B Zone was his personal favorite. Dave said on February 19, 2006 on his show, The Dave Glover Show, that the station received letters saying I should be given my own show . . . maybe it might happen, then again maybe it won’t.  If it was entirely up to Dave Glover, I could have been the contest winner.  Nonetheless, it was the listeners of 97.1FM Talk who spoke with their votes in the end and decided that it was Tim Meyer who would be declared the winner  of the Dave Glover Show Survivor Contest . . . congratulations and best of luck to Mr. Meyer.
The announcement at around 4:50pm CST this Afternoon marks the end of the Big B Zone Radio Program.  I have had a great run with the Big B Zone from November 2004 to September 2006 on the Eastern Illinois University student run radio station The Odyssey and on February 16, 2007 on 97.1FM Talk.
I will not resurrect the Big B Zone unless one of the following things occurs:

  •  97.1FM Talk or another radio station hires me to do a talk show on a regular basis.
  • A station hires me to do a radio or television show that has a combination  of opinion and interviews.
  • Either I initiate or someone hires me to do on a regular basis an internet radio or telvision show that has a combination  of opinion and interviews.
  • A show similar to the O’Reilly Factor.

I want to thank 97.1 FM Talk, Jeff Allen, Dave Glover, and Tom Turbrock (who also engineered the Big B Zone on Friday, February 16, 2007 for the opportunity to do the Big B Zone during the Dave Glover Show Survivor Contest.  Unless one of the above things occur, today’s announcement by Dave Glover on 97.1 FM Talk marks the end of the Big B Zone . . .what an amazing run I had!

That’s the Big B Files.  Click on the “Comments” link below and tell me what you think . . . I’m Bryan Hewing.
