The Impact of Political Correctness and the Continuing Fallout

The Impact of Political Correctness and the continuing fallout is the Subject of this Big B File.

One day last month while working at Target, A thought came to mind in regards on to the impact of political correctness on our society in this country.  It made think about the changes that have occurred in the past two decades due to political correctness . . . . and none of them for the better.

It seems like we cannot do ANYTHING nowadays with worrying about running afoul of the Political Correctness (PC) Police…things we used to be able to say and do 10 or 20 years ago and games we used to be able to play that long ago that you cannot play anymore for various PC reasons. The Big B Files will delve into this in just a moment.  When you hear people say that Political Correctness has run amok….that is a huge understatement.  The Big B Files submits that people are deathly afraid of saying anything out of fear that someone will be offended . . . .even something so innocent as “your hair looks nice today”  which in a PC world can be seen as sexist and/or hate speech to some. I hate to burst your bubble and break the news to you, but someone is always going to be offended no matter what you say!

We always have to second guess ourselves on what we say and do because the Elites always keep changing the rules on us on a constant basis just to suit their agendas. Just take a moment to think back 20, 30, or 40 years ago to things we were able to do back then like playing Dodge ball or singing songs like “Ring around the Rosie” or “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe”.  In order to be PC, schools have made these things illegal!

It seems like we live in a constant state of fear . . . all due to political correctness.  Fear to say, do, touch, and feel anything . . . all out of fear of being labeled things like being a racist, bigot, radical, extremist, etc. and offending someone, especially elitists who absolutely cannot stand people who hold views and beliefs that are not theirs.  Political correctness says that you cannot offend anyone with two glaring exceptions . . . Christians (including Catholics) and conservatives.

The measures taken by those who believe in Political Correctness seem to be similar to (if not the same as) those taken in socialist or communist countries.  The most glaring example of this is the efforts of the elites in the name of political correctness to take God out of the public square and to erase him from the nation’s conscience . . . . especially from the conscience of the children, our future generations and our nation’s future.  Allow the Big B Files to cite a few examples to illustrate the point.

In a CBN News story entitled ‘God’ Hard to Find in New Capitol Center, CBN News told the story of the new Capitol Visitors Center and how a successful effort was made to prevent (for the most part) the elites from striking our nation’s Christian heritage as well as the impact of Christians on our nation throughout history . . . beginning with the Revolutionary War (click here to see Video of the Story)!  As the CBN News story says . . . .

“House minority leader John Boehner thanked a group of religious believers in Congress for fighting politically-correct omissions that threatened to run God and the nation’s religious heritage out of the new center.

“Let me also thank Congressman Randy Forbes and the Congressional Prayer Caucus for their efforts to insure this historic building includes appropriate references to our nation’s spiritual heritage, including our national motto “In God We Trust,” the Ohio Republican said.

Congressman Forbes told CBN News, “It had been such political correctness in there when it came to issues of faith that faith and the history of faith in this country were not represented at all.”

Newt Gingrich’s spokesman Rick Tyler complained the Visitor Center doesn’t “…rightfully honor the centrality of God to our American history. It’s a little like visiting the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame and not finding Elvis.”

The story lists some of the omissions that were to have been done in the name of political correctness. Those omissions include the fact that “E Pluribus Unum” was represented as our nation’s motto, though the motto is actually “In God We Trust.”; “In 1956 under the Eisenhower administration they passed ‘In God We Trust’ as the national motto,” (Newt Gingrich’s spokesman Rick) Tyler pointed out. “That IS our national motto and it’s not up to the architect and their committee to change it.” The phrase “In God We Trust” wasn’t displayed prominently; the table President Lincoln used to hold his Bible during his second inauguration is displayed, but without the Bible and the Pledge of Allegiance isn’t displayed prominently.

The next example involves the PC crowd’s systematic attempts to take God out of the public square and to erase him from the nation’s conscience. According to the EWTN News story N.J. school district’s ban on Christmas music appealed to Supreme Court, a New Jersey school district has banned everything to do with Christmas altogether . . .even the very mention of the word itself:

The policy banned the performance of Christmas music, including instrumental versions, from year-end holiday concerts. High school brass ensembles had to “eliminate” from its repertoire “traditional carols.” The Martin Luther King Gospel Choir, a student organization, was banned from performing at a high school holiday assembly for the student body because it sang religious songs.

According to the Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), which filed the appeal, the policy removed from any printed concert programs any “graphics which refer to the holidays, such as Christmas Trees and derides.”

“This anti-religious policy is yet another example of the militant hostility that many public schools have towards Christians and Christmas. These school districts have embarked on a program to eradicate any reference to Christianity because that religion is a major stumbling block to their political indoctrination of our children,” alleged Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of TMLC.

Christmas music had been a part of the Christmas traditions in the New Jersey school district since at least 1960. In 2003, a year before the policy was enacted, the school district’s December holiday concert included traditional religious songs such as “Joy to the World, ” “O Come All Ye Faithful, ” “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” and “Silent Night.”…..

…..“Certainly, those of us who were educated in the public schools remember holiday celebrations replete with Christmas carols, and possibly even Chanukah songs, to which no objection had been raised,” the federal appellate court said in its decision. “Since then, the governing principles have been examined and defined with more particularity. Many decisions about how to best create an inclusive environment in public schools, such as those at issue here, are left to the sound discretion of the school authorities.”

Another example of political correctness is the passage of the Hate Crimes Bill by attaching it to the Defense Authorization bill in 2009.  The bill would give federal prosecutors the okay to intervene in cases of violence against people because of gender, sexual orientation or gender identity. Christian leaders have well founded fears with the now law:

What Jackson (Bishop Harry Jackson of the conservative High Impact Leadership Coalition) is worried about is that hate crimes law may end up targeting pastors and other believers who preach against homosexuality. In other words, what some label “hate speech” against homosexuality will come to be seen as an actual “hate crime.”

“I believe the Gospel is going to be attacked among other things, where people who speak out against gayness, speak out against homosexuality, are penalized by overzealous prosecutors,” he said.

Jackson believes actual religious persecution may be ahead.

“We’re creating an environment where I believe there’s going to be a reverse prejudice dynamic, and there’s going to be an insensitivity to just the opinions and even the preaching of individuals who happen to disagree with a lifestyle when they’re not trying to demean the personhood of an individual,” he said. “And that thin line is what makes this very insidious. It’s a slippery slope in which I believe many are going to be persecuted.”

If you think the elites who champion Political Correctness by using Hate Crimes Laws to try to shut down free speech by Christians of all denominations won’t occur or will not occur….think again.  In fact it has occurred….just take the example of the case of Catholic Charities organizations in the Dioceses of Springfield, Peoria and Joliet (all Illinois) suing the Illinois Attorney General and the Department of Children and Family Services over the state banning catholic Charities from placing children in foster care as a result of Catholic Charities adhering to Catholic teaching and placing foster children only with married couples and single individuals without live-in partners.  As the head of Thomas More Society says:

“Religious and faith-based entities need not check their beliefs at the door when providing vital social services for the benefit of needy and vulnerable children and families in Illinois,” said Tom Brejcha of the Thomas More Society.“Catholic Charities has a clear right under Illinois law to pursue its charitable good works in the true spirit of the Gospels and the Sermon on the Mount, faithful to the essential tenets of its Catholic faith,” he added. “We will advocate strongly to protect Catholic Charities’ continuing its mission of social service.”

You can read more about the case here and here as well as the letter from DCFS here. By the way, the Judge hearing the case, Judge John Schmidt, issued an injunction against DCFS and Attorney General Lisa Madigan and will decide the case on August 17th. In issuing the injunction, the judge said that the Department of Children and Family Services’ termination letter had the “appearance of gamesmanship.”

Political Correctness can even be deadly. Regarding Political Correctness, former Arkansas Governor and Fox News Channel host Mike Huckabee said the following in a commentary on Foxnews.com from Monday, November 23, 2009 entitled Political Correctness Killed Americans:

The massacre at Fort Hood, in which 14 people were murdered by an Islamic extremist who betrayed his country and his uniform, will be debated as to why the Army didn’t see the signs that this guy was a potential threat and certainly not worthy of the same uniform and insignia of the brave men and women who have risked their lives for their country.

Nidal Hasan wore the uniform of the United States, but his traitorous actions disgraced that uniform and our flag. It appears that there was a prevailing spirit of political correctness that caused many from calling attention to his radical and anti-American statements. It’s bad enough that political correctness has killed Christmas, comedy and common sense, but in this case, it appear that it killed 14 innocent people;13 soldiers and civilians and one unborn child.

In the aftermath, prominent military officials such as the highly regarded General George Casey and Admiral Mike Mullen stated that they hoped that nothing would hurt the diversity of the military. With the highest respect for their positions and service, I truly understand, appreciate and support the ideal that our military reflect the great diversity of our unique and wonderful nation. But the men and women of our Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard are not participants in a massive social experiment or a demonstration project to show how diverse and tolerant we are. They are recruited, trained, and equipped to provide the greatest military force on the planet.

Let the universities provide the ideological playground for academics to put forth the high-minded plans of people management to give us all a “feel-good” for being so tolerant, but our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines deserve to be surrounded by the best of their peers, not misfits who are protected because of their religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or their cereal preference for that matter.

There is room in the military for people from all kinds of backgrounds and diversity, but the common denominator ought to be devotion to country, honor and duty. Too much is at stake to cover for someone to keep from offending the political sensitivities of anyone.

The military sacrifices enough for us. We shouldn’t ask them to sacrifice common sense so as not to offend anyone. The military is trained to not merely offend an enemy, but destroy it.

Political Correctness also has been used against Conservatives and Christians . . . even on college campuses.  As the Young America’s Foundation illustrates:

You can bring a highly toxic, offensive, and controversial play to Marquette University in the name of “free speech,” but you cannot question, raise objection to, or express your opinion about the play using your right to free speech.

That’s because Marquette University provost John Pauly, interim arts and science dean Phil Rossi, and political science department chair Barry McCormick are ‘okay’ with having a sexually-charged play on stage at Marquette University, but they aren’t okay with professor John McAdams expressing his concerns about the play The Vagina Monologues, which he raised in his independent blog, The Marquette Warrior. These leftist administrators summoned professor John McAdams into their office and reprimanded him for his dissension. They even tried to force him to stop blogging.

Leftist professors can lecture Marquette students in the classroom on their viewpoints about political correctness, multi-culturalism, gender identity, homosexuality, climate change, etc. But a conservative professor cannot express his ideas. Does anyone see the irony here? Leftist hypocrites!

You can read about how, if you say or do anything in contradiction to Political Correctness, be punished and even charged criminally in this CBN News Story. To show how Political Correctness has gone out of control, “Britain’s Channel 4 Dispatches program exposed violent rhetoric in local mosques. British police initially decided to charge – not the radical imams who were promoting violence and bigotry – but the news program that did the report, for allegedly stirring up racial hatred.”

And that is the Big B File.  Click on the comments link below and tell me what you think…I’m Bryan Hewing.
